A Smoke Free Paso Del Norte Organizing Agency

The goal of the Smoke Free Paso Del Norte initiative is to reduce smoking rates in the region.  Organizations from around the region have been awarded grants to accomplish this goal.

The University of Texas at El Paso - Psychology Department was awarded the Organizing Agency grant in December 2006.  The primary focus areas of the grant for 2009 are the following:

1. Ensure quality control of grantees in the Smoke Free Paso Del Norte initiative by providing technical assistance;
2. Smoke Free media research, development, and implementation for youth prevention and adult smoking cessation;
3. Clean indoor air ordinance/policy protection and promotion;
4. Tobacco control networks oversight in El Paso, TX and Cd. Juarez, Chih., Mexico.
