The Materials Research and Technology Institute (MRTI) was formed in 2001 to assist research conducted by scientists and students in the Materials Science and Engineering (MAS&E) program at UTEP. The focus of research projects in MRTI is to create an economically and environmentally healthy US/Mexico border region, to develop regional employment opportunities and to help provide technologically oriented personal for the region.
