The Goals of the project are:
- To increase the quality and retention of new teachers and master teachers in science and mathematics;
- To develop and maintain the professional enhancement of new teachers in the schools and future teachers funded by other sources through mentoring, networking and participation in a community of science and mathematics teachers and UTEP faculty; and
- To continuously improve the field-based courses in mathematics and science as a mechanism for maintaining the partnership among Colleges of Science and Education and the public schools.
The goals of the evaluation component of the proposed project are:
- To assess how well the project accomplished its goals:
- To document and assess how educational partnerships contribute to the improvement of teacher education programs and the development of qualified mathematics and science teachers; and
- To develop an understanding of the essential elements of reform and how these elements facilitate learning mathematics and science and how they also facilitate learning how to teach mathematics and science.
