Activities: Consistent with its mission, the Academy supports both outreach and research activities
A. Research Activities
- To conduct evidence-driven research in mathematics, science, and engineering learning across all age groups
- To establish field-based research pedagogical laboratories at selected local schools to conduct research on emerging issues of mathematics, science, and engineering learning
- To research and develop successful curricula and intervention strategies for enhanced mathematics, science and engineering learning
- To study cognitive and affective aspects of mathematics, science and engineering learning, and understanding
- To disseminate knowledge about effective practices of mathematics, science and engineering learning through publications and public research events (e.g., conferences, workshops)
- To seek external funding to support mathematics, science and engineering education research and program development at UTEP
B. Outreach Activities
- To provide PreK-16 students opportunities to participate in and be exposed to higher level mathematics, science and engineering through:
- On-going research seminar in mathematics, science, and engineering education
- Action Research Teams and pedagogical laboratories in local schools
- Outreach activities for local middle and high school students (TexPREP program, Physics and Chemistry circuses, Texas Space Grant Consortium, NASA related activities)
- To support involvement of UTEP undergraduate and graduate students into mathematics, engineering, and science education research (Noyce, PETE, and MSP initiatives)
