There are four models of RPLs under the
Mathematics Science Partnership (MSP)
College of Science Project:
Model 1 is the Administrative Model (AM). This model evolved from individual campus administrators requesting particular work from the UTEP teams. This is a “top down” model where the teachers were required to work with the UTEP teams.
Model 2 is the Teacher Interest (TI) Model. This model evolved from teacher interest in particular work and teacher initiated professional development and research.
Model 3 is the Administrative Teacher Team (ATT) Model where there was a combined interest between teachers and administrators concerning research and Professional Development. Model 4 is the Faculty Research Initiative (FRI) Model where the work is driven by faculty research interest.

During the 2003-2004 school year there were approximately 100 teachers, administrators, and university faculty members involved with the work to various degrees. The work directly impacted approximately 5,752 middle and high school students.
Due to the nature of the research work, it is appropriate to collaborate with smaller groups of teachers. The RPL work is not traditional Professional Development or In-service training.
Following is a summary of the schools, a chart of all the RPL products, and the integration of RPL faculty and teachers into other MSP initiatives.
