Teaching Gender Equity in Mathematics and Science (TGEMS), is a two-year, $140,000 supplement to the Math and Science Partnership (MSP) Grant. The purpose of TGEMS is to provide middle and high school teachers with a professional development program on gender equity in math and science classrooms. TGEMS is a replication and extension of the research-based model, "Weaving Gender Equity into Math Reform" created by Technical Education Research Centers, Inc, developed as a response to the under-representation of women in math and science careers. TGEMS is being delivered over a two-year period as a component of the MSP Induction Project, an initiative aimed at retention of new math and science teachers in El Paso area public schools. Anticipated products of TGEMS include sample lessons for teaching gender equity in math and science and a protocol for teacher preparation.
