 Pilot Project 1 Minimize

UTEP Prof Homayoun (Homer) Nazeran leads the first pilot project, titled:
Impulse Oscillometric Evaluation of the Effect of Air Quality on Respiratory Function in Normal and Asthmatic Anglo and Hispanic Children on the US-Mexico Border. Other investigators are Prof Patricia Nava of UTEP and Mark Schuyler, MD, of UNM. Lyndon Mansfield, MD, of the Western Sky Medical Research in El Paso serves as a consultant. Impulse oscillometry (IOS) is a promising new, non-invasive technique for measuring lung function, well suited by its clinical simplicity for evaluation of children. The project will compare IOS with conventional spirometry testing in asthmatic and non-asthmatic children, from Hispanic and Anglo populations. Data also will be supplied to the Core Project.
