Characterization of Indoor-Outdoor PM [particulate matter] for Assessing the Effects of Childhood Asthma Prevalence in Latino Households is led by Prof Wen-Whai Li of UTEP’s College of Engineering. Other investigators include Profs Pingitore and Melissa Gonzales of UNM. The project will conduct continuous monitoring, over 1-to-2 week periods, of particulate matter in indoor and outdoor air at specific cohort homes throughout El Paso and will provide baseline data on potential exposure to asthma-causing material. High-density sampling in both time and space will provide seasonal and geographic data to interface with asthma exacerbation records.
