 Pilot Project 5 Minimize

UTEP Professor Lawrence Murr will investigate the prevalence of specific ultrafine particles, carbon nanotubes, in households, especially in kitchens. His project team, which includes Profs Burchiel and Kristine Garza of UTEP’s Biology Department, will also investigate the inflammatory response to lung cell tissue lines to exposures of carbon nanotubes. Murr’s pilot project, titled Ultrafine Components of El Paso Particulates: Characterization, Exposure and Inflammatory Response of Indoor Carbon Nanotube Aggregates in Tissue In-Vitro,
is a three-year study, as are the other four pilot projects.
