Session 1 - IACUC 101
October 8th (1:30pm) & November 11th (10:30am)
IACUC 101 is a concise overview of what investigators need to know about the use of animals in research. Historical perspectives, components of UTEP’s Animal Care and Use Program, and the institution’s relationships with oversight and regulatory agencies will be presented.
Session II - IRB 101
October 13th (1:30pm) & November 17th (10:30am)
IRB 101 presents an overall view of human subjects research and ethics. The workshop materials are intended to provide faculty and student researchers with the “guide/tools” for the responsible conduct of research.
Session III - Intellecutal Property
October 20th (3pm) & November 18th (10:30am)
Learn how to protect your intellectual property—this session summarizes UT System Rules and UTEP policy. The processes involved in patenting an invention and the benefits to commercialization of technologies also will be covered.
Session IV - Recombinant DNA/IBC 101
October 27th (3pm) & November 12th (3pm)
IBC 101 is geared towards researchers who will be submitting proposals for work with infection agents or recombinant DNA at UTEP. Participants will work through case studies to become familiar with UTEP’s IBC, NIH Office of Biotechnology Activities, and
NIH Guidelines for Research Involving Recombinant DNA Molecules.
Session V - Research Integrity & Conflict of Interest
October 23rd (2pm) & November 19th (10:30am)
Learn about research integrity and conflict of interest policies at UTEP. This workshop provides an overview of the processes and procedures involved in reporting research misconduct and disclosing conflicts of interest.
