Mission Statement

The mission of theInstitutional Biosafety Committee (IBC) at The University of Texas at El Paso(UTEP) is to ensure that research involving recombinant DNA (rDNA), syntheticnucleotides, infectious agents (pathogens), biological toxins, nanotechnology,or select agents is classified at the appropriate biosafety level and done in accordancewith all appropriate guidelines, regulations and good safety practices.

 

UTEP uses the NIH Guidelines for Research InvolvingRecombinant DNA Molecules and the Institutional Biosafety Committee (IBC)as key tools for biosafety and rDNA research oversight.
