The Research Cloud’s High Performance Cluster provides researchers with access to computational resources. Access to these resources is provided through Virtual Computing Lab (VCL) and High Performance Cluster (HPC):

The High Performance Cluster (HPC) is used to execute parallel programs or multiple instances of the same program each driven by a different parameter set. This service is powered by IBM Platform HPC Version 3.2, which incorporates LSF Express. Remotely submit a job to a specified number of computers for execution

The Virtual Computing Lab (VCL)
provides dedicated access to a range of computing environments for researchers to access from any networked location either on or off campus (using VPN). Reserve a customized remote computer with a desired operating system and set of applications, and remotely access it over the Internet: The remote computer is provided by VCL to compile code, edit documents, analyze data, perform file transfers, etc.

The VCL and HPC are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. If you would like to request an account, please click here.

Please do not hesitate to contact us if you require any further information and/or assistance.

We are constantly working on improvements for the HPC.
During the first half year of 2017 the HPC team will be creating a plan to restructure the current HPC environment to better utilize resources and offer more options for all UTEP HPC users.
To be focused on the current and upcoming requirements it is important for us to collect as many requirements and ideas as possible.
Please feel free to contact us at and submit all requirements and suggestions.
