Center for Effective Teaching and Learning (

>> Faculty
play a key role in creating an environment where students succeed academically.  UTEP created CETaL to support faculty interested in understanding how students learn and in improving their teaching.  CETaL promotes excellence in teaching, the improvement of student learning, and the scholarship of teaching.

Through CETaL, UTEP faculty receive support for instructional design, development and evaluation to better ensure their effectiveness as teachers.

>> CETaL services:
  • Classroom observation consultations
  • Curriculum development and revision support
  • Individual consultations
  • Research and publication support
  • Sessions on student learning outcomes assessment

CETaL also hosts teaching and learning workshops and seminars where faculty from all disciplines and all ranks can meet and share their best teaching strategies.  CETaL provides specific support for the professional development of new faculty.  At the beginning of each academic year, CETaL hosts a Fall Faculty Retreat on Teaching and Learning,
an event designed to provide new faculty with opportunities to network with senior faculty early in their UTEP careers and to have a positive impact on how they teach.

CETaL promotes the scholarship of teaching on the UTEP campus and beyond through an annual conference, the SUN Conference on Teaching and Learning.  Presenters and attendees from across the country come to UTEP each year to participate in this conference that is devoted entirely to teaching and learning issues.
