Rio Bosque and the Border Fence

U.S. Customs and Border Protection has built most of a planned 56.7 miles of border fence along the Rio Grande between El Paso, Texas, and Arroyo Diablo near McNary in Hudspeth County, Texas.  Details on the project are available at the Border Fence Environmental Planning page for the U.S. Border Patrol's El Paso Sector.

For approximately 1.25 miles, the fence is immediately west of the west boundary of Rio Bosque Wetlands Park:

Installation of the fence next to the park took place between 15 December 2008 and 31 January 2009.  The paired photos below show the west side of the park before and after fence construction.  The aerial photo immediately below shows the location of the photo stations.  The fence is located on the outer toe of the Rio Grande levee on the U.S. side, just across the Riverside Drain from the park.
