Rio Bosque Repeat Photography

When the site preparation for the wetland project at Rio Bosque Wetlands Park took place in 1997, the park landscape changed dramatically.  Large areas were cleared and recontoured to create the park's wetland cells and water-delivery system.  Since then, the park has continued to change as efforts to restore native ecosystems at Rio Bosque move forward.

In 1999, UTEP established 28 permanent photographic stations at the park to document the changes taking place.  Every few years, we take 3 to 5 repeat photos at each station, using the same set of bearings each time.  In all, there are 103 distinct views captured in these photographs.

We took the most recent photos in 2017.  In some, the changes since 1999 are remarkable.  In others, they are subtle.  All provide a valuable record of the dynamic nature of the Rio Bosque landscape.  The complete repeat-photography archive, from 1999 to 2017, can be viewed here.  The links below will take you to the photos taken at each station.
